this past weekend in our middle school ministry we had what we like to call
“extended game time.”
it was a blast.
we set up cones
got some tricycles from the children’s ministry storage (we had permission…i’m not THAT dumb)
and we went to town.
there is something in the heart of every middle school aged student that just wants to have fun…
which makes me love my job even more

Kalahari
This week Velocity High School Ministry is at Kalahari Indoor Water Park. Pics will be up later tonight.
As a staff we have two goals:
1. Provide an atmosphere where students can build relationships with other students and adult leaders.
2. Enlarge the students’ view of God.
Thanks for praying.

i love these guys
I spent my friday evening with some pretty amazing friends. they are the adult leaders of velocity…high school ministry of northridge church.

this is bill. he’s our fearless leader.

this is some of the gang hanging out after the “meeting” part. all in all, i absolutely love serving with these guys. they make my job so much fun!

(another) weekend update
has it been a week since i last posted? wow.
well. this last weekend was quite busy. it started friday. velocity decided to do the 30 Hour Famine that world vision hosts. me and 35 other velocity staff and students started fasting around 7:00a on friday. we got together, had some worship, played some games, slept at the church, served in detroit, then ended the fast at 1:00p saturday afternoon. thanks to anne gardner we had a kickin’ “traditional” african meal. overall we raised over $4,000 for world vision to help feed kids in africa.
then came velocity.
i gave the talk on “who do you say jesus is?” it was based off of peter’s confession in matthew 16:15 – “You are the Christ, son of the living God.”
for a creative element, we had two students spray paint both positive and negative views of jesus on to a large piece of muslin fabric (see pic) … after the talk, the band did three worship songs from behind the fabric…it was a powerful night of confession and worship of who jesus is.

What can you do in 45 seconds?
our ministry had a blanket drive last november. the student leaderhship team built a box to put all the blankets in. it was a kickin’ box. so much so i almost didn’t want to get rid of it. but alas…we did. enjoy this fun little snippet of 3 people destroying a well-built wooden box.
velocity update – march 1, 2009

this past weekend in velocity we our opening talk for “red letters.” i have the talk, and i was pretty excited about it. i talked out of matthew 9:9-13. jesus walks up to matthew, an outcast in that society, and asks him to follow. so crazy. i took it from two angles
the disciples: no doubt the ones already following jesus were a little confused as to why a “tax collector” was joining their bunch. i asked, “who in your life are you denying the life-changing love of jesus?” we mainly do that because of decisions those people have made…we think jesus wouldn’t want them following him.
matthew: we’ve all been here, i’m sure. i know i’ve felt sometimes that i’m not good enough to follow jesus. oh boy does jesus shatter that thinking. anyone can change. this is jesus we’re talking about…the same dude who rose from the dead! wow, the power in believing that is immense. who do you know that is “too far gone?” even when everyone thinks a person is “lost” … he is still worth being found in God’s eyes.
next week bill is tackling some red letters. stay tuned for a recap
